Life-giving water...or not

Camille and I just returned from Iowa City/Coralville tonight. One of our few adopted cities across the U.S. as it is our make-shift home for a few days every year from now until forever. She had her enucleation at U of I last May. We returned for follow-up a few weeks later. We returned a few months later to meet Vaune, who will always make her prosthetic. We have staked the parks. We have walked the Campus up and down. We know our way around. We spent many-an-hour by the river in City Park, which currently doesn't exist.

And this time, we returned saddened. For the people. For the city. For the campus. For the culture. The word on the street is that the water won't return to pre-flood levels until October. October. As in four-months-from-now October. At which point there will be starting-over.

Ironic, isn't it? That something so vital to our life can be so destructive as well. Once again, my least favorite cliche is challenged. Is there really a reason for everything?
